Setting the social sharing image in Squarespace
Squarespace generates Open Graph tags automatically and falls back to your site-wide social sharing logo when a page has no image of its own. That is exactly why so many Squarespace links show the same logo as their preview — here is how to do better.
The free checker shows your previews for nine platforms — from X and WhatsApp to iMessage, Discord and Bluesky.
Per page: set a social image
Open the page settings (gear next to the page) and go to the Social Image tab (or "SEO" → social). Upload a 1200×630 image specifically for that page.
Site-wide: the fallback logo
In the site settings (Design/Marketing → Social sharing, depending on your version) lives the site-wide social logo. It appears for every page without its own social image — so pick something better than just your logo on white.
Blog posts: the featured image
Blog posts typically use the featured image as og:image. Set it deliberately on every post.
Test
Paste your URL into the MetaPeek checker and verify the right image, title and description appear — per platform.
Common mistakes
- The logo as preview everywhereThe classic Squarespace problem: no page-specific social images set, so everything falls back to the site logo. Set an image for every important page.
- Text against the edge of the imagePlatforms crop differently. Keep text and faces in the center of your 1200×630 canvas.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the og:description in Squarespace?
Yes — the page's SEO description is used for the social preview. Fill it in deliberately in the page settings.
My change does not show when sharing — now what?
First check with MetaPeek whether the new tags are live. If they are, it is the platform cache; it refreshes on its own.
Paste your URL and see within two seconds whether everything is right — on every platform.
